Tamraght is a small town a little north of Agadir in Morocco. It is sandwiched between the infamous Banana Village of Aourir & well known surfers hot spot Taghazout. Boasting many of its own beautiful breaks, it’s a popular destination for those seeking the delights of wave riding.
A little about Tamraght…
A serene Amazigh village that caters to the travellers seeking a chilled beachside lifestyle. As a Muslim country, many mosques stand gloriously throughout the town, joining harmoniously in prayer throughout each day.
The main beach Imouranne connects inbetween Banana Point & Crocro. A walk from the shore between the opulent hotels leads you to the foot of the hillside where the bulk of the population reside. For such a tiny collection of beings it’s an impressive mix of cultures. Of course here live many Natives of the area & those from out of town. Mixed in are a whole bunch of outlanders, those who crossed the border in order to discover Tamraght as a gratifying choice to build a life.
With quite a bit less on offer than the countless frills of our modern time, it can be a beautiful escape from the latest technology. A place that allows you to appreciate a simpler survival. A pleasant contrast for the generation dependent on screens, enjoying the gifts of nature here is a far better alternative.
There are many pleasant encounters with the cats & dogs living in the streets, who may come to say hello. One of the joys of Tamraght is making new furry friends, bringing more smiles & love to your day.
You can support these street animals with food & water & cuddles. There is also options to donate to organisations that help with medical care, sterilisation & adoption. Colette collects donations at her Sunday evening Yin Class at Kasbari Coliving
Tamraght has a vibe of living in the moment. Where there is a strong value of being together in the company of others & the blessings of the earth. A more active nightlife can be found just 10 minutes up the road in Taghazout. As well as the closest city Agadir, that also caters to more options in entertainment & beverages.
The limited choices in Tamraght I believe are what add to its charm & help reduce the crippling paradox of choice.

One of the many delights of Tamraght is the sky views. From Sunrise to Sunset the colours can be mystical. There are occasions of clouds but it’s a rare day the sun doesn’t peak through to shine down over Tamraght.
Although simpler as a whole, Tamraght still hosts visitors of many different ambitions. There is a vast variety of accommodation choices available to suit all budgets in the area. Camping, surf camps, hostels, apartments, B&Bs, riad’s & of course the aforementioned luxury hotels.
Finally about the food. If you know you know… if you don’t know, as you haven’t yet had the pleasure of devouring traditional Moroccan cuisine, then maybe this article will help to with a little insight.
Tamraght’s Mindful Community
Tamraght has been building a powerful Mindful Community for many years it seems. I feel this this is partly due to the yoga teachers who have been welcomed here to teach classes to guests. Lucie (Founder of Tamraght’s Surf Star & Adam’s Cafe) arrived 12 years ago. Alongside a lady called Wendy they introduced the West Coast to this beneficial practice. It seems this practice was relatively unknown here at the time, Lucie quickly became associated for her yoga teachings. She recalls fondly at for being regarded as ‘Yoga’ for a while by the locals.
As practice that complements surfers, yoga packages in Tamraght become more popular here each year. The teachings of yoga promote mindfulness & so it’s not too strange to think that more teachers that arrived to share a yoga offering, brought with them more mindfulness practices.
There have also been pioneers to the healing offerings available in Tamraght. The Tamraght Yoga Studio is remembered very fondly my by many in the community. Created by Sarah it was a beautiful place for the community to practice. Unfortunately this is no longer active however we are very grateful for the part it played in Tamraght history.
Kalananda (based between Tamraght & Aourir) is one of the the first Yoga studios to be created here & a valuable pillar of the community today. It helped to open up opportunities for more practices to be shared, such as ceremonies, sound healing & Qi Gong. Now there are lots of places offering regular yoga classes, events & mindful activities.
In addition to the community, it is often mentioned people feel a strong spiritual energy here. Potentially the town is situated within one of the earth’s energy vortexes, perhaps this energy has been cultivated by the modest lives of the souls that reside here, or maybe this energy is just personal to those who are open to feel it. It’s hard to say, but I agree that I feel a deeper connection in Tamraght. A connection to myself, the earth & many people within this community.
In short, Tamraght has been known as a destination for mindful beings for a while now. Despite when or how it all began, it is clear that this conscious collection is only growing.
‘Mindful Tamraght’
Following a series of events it became clear to me that there were so many mindful people here practicing & offering natural healing alternatives. This community of like minded souls who had felt drawn in by Tamraght & chose this place in which to share their gifts. However it just didn’t seem that easy to be aware of all that was on offer here.
Mindful Tamraght was started as a tool to help everyone discover, celebrate & connect this community. To allow all in Tamraght & around the world to see the magic that is Tamraght. With an aim to show there is much more here than waves & incredible food.
It started with a little chat between friends & developed into the whole community reaching out to share information on all the wonderful things happening in the area. It was just a little post of all the classes & offerings but the community spirit to get involved was incredible. It was lovely to connect with so many others who were choosing to use their time & energy to help others heal.
Overwhelmed with the sheer abundance of offerings it was obvious this needed a much more deserving platform. An interactive calendar is now available to see exactly what is going on in & around Tamraght, helping you to find an experience easily & linking you directly to the venues/individuals. The Listings allows mindful businesses & individuals to create a profile detailing their offerings & services.
As I have travelled a little, I understand the importance of making the most of my time in a place . Many times I arrived to a place to learn I have just missed an event or that something I’d like to try was happening the day after I leave. This was a key motivator in creating a guide that would help everyone have visuality of Tamraght so that they can try to avoid this happening to them. Whether you live local or are visiting, all you need to find yoga, wellness & healing are right here.
